Wednesday, January 9, 2013 "Growing in Love"
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at McDonell
Two unique presentations IN ONE NIGHT: In the first, PARENTS ONLY attend a session on key elements of parenting an emerging adult. This program focuses on parenting strategies that help the parent stay connected to the child during a time that often leads to estrangement, especially in areas such as sexuality, relationships and morality. In the second presentation, PARENTS ATTEND WITH THEIR CHILDREN who are entering puberty (typically this includes children in grades 4 - 7, with most attending during 5th or 6th grade year). The combined program walks a family through the basic information on transitioning from childhood to adulthood. It is unique in that is includes information on holistic development (spiritual, emotional, social, moral, personal, and physical) rather than just physcial maturity.
Wednesday, February 20, 2013 "Bodies and Boundaries" 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at McDonell
This presentation given to PARENTS WITH THEIR 13 - 17 year old. Using a question and answer format, the audience engages in discussion note the topics include sexuality, true love, chastity, and relationships. Emphasis is placed on strengthening communication between parent and child and the development of behavioral standards that are based on the Ten Commandments. This is accomplished through a deeper unerstanding of Catholic church teaching. This program offers parents the opportunity to guide their young adult in forming solid, loving relationships that avoid the "hook-up" mentality so prevalent today. It also encourages parents to guide their children to discern their vocation, and the role that their sexuality plays in the state of life to which they are called.
